With the closure of coal mines in northeastern Wyoming and oil and gas production at a low, Governor Mark Gordon says it is becoming paramount that the state looks for ways to diversify its economy.
Gordon says, “Wyoming still has a posture really focused around minerals; and the challenges is going to be, how do we diversify away from that? People of Wyoming know this, and people of Wyoming will make wise choices come this fall, and our session coming up in January will be one of the most important sessions that this state has ever seen.”
Facing the largest decline in revenue in state history, Governor Mark Gordon earlier this year directed state agencies to prepare for a 20% cut to Wyoming’s budget for the upcoming biennium, with initial proposals that were due July first.
