Forest Opens May First With Limitations

The winter wildlife closures on the Jackson and Blackrock Ranger Districts of the Bridger-Teton National Forest end at midnight tonight, signaling the transition from winter to summer regulations regarding travel and camping. Visitors planning to search for antler sheds or just get outside need to be aware of important changes this year. Those include: antler collection is prohibited until noon Friday, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Teton County officials are requesting that visitors not travel to the Jackson area until public health restrictions on travel ease, and deep, lingering snow is limiting the area accessible for motor vehicle travel and for camping. Forest visitor centers, campgrounds and restrooms, are closed. Dispersed camping is permitted but very limited area is accessible due to the snowpack. The camp stay limit for this portion of the Forest is 5-days from May 1 until Labor Day. Visitors can access the Flat Creek drainage at the Forest kiosk on Friday morning. And while plans are underway to plow the Curtis Canyon road up the overlook/campground area, the deep snow may modify this plan.
