Chronic Wasting Disease was discovered last week in an elk south of Pinedale. Wyoming Game and Fish confirmed three new positive tests for CWD in hunter-harvested bull elk, one in the Pinedale Region and two in the Sheridan Region.
Last Monday, Wyoming Game and Fish announced a new case from a bull elk taken in Hunt Area 98, southwest from the Wind River Range to Highway 28’s crossing of the Green River.
Chronic wasting disease is a fatal disease of the central nervous system in mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, and moose.
Affected animals ultimately show progressive weight loss, reluctance to move, excessive salivation, droopy ears, increased drinking and urinating, lethargy, and eventually death.
